Assessment absence or coursework submission issues

Absence from exams, class tests, or problems with submission of coursework

Please allow time for submission: do not leave submission right up to the deadline but make an allowance so that any last minute problems can be resolved.  University computing facilities can be in great demand near a coursework deadline and it is every student’s responsibility to plan for these circumstances, as well as allowing sufficient time in the event of peak system usage or minor illness etc.

If you are experiencing difficulty in submitting your work online:

1.   Check www.manchester.ac.uk/servicedesk which will tell you if there is a service availability issue (see box on left of webpage);or check the system status for Turnitin here: http://www.turnitin.com/self-service/system-status.html

2.   Retry submission; if you are still having difficulties, close the browser and try again with a different browser, for example instead of Internet Explorer use Firefox.

3.    If there are still submission problems contact the service desk at www.manchester.ac.uk/servicedesk with full details of your course code and name, the assignment name and type you are submitting, the browser you are using, the tools you are using e.g. Turnitin (Tii) or Discussion Boards and the problems you are experiencing

4.   Contact your Assessment and Student Support Centre: studentsupport.ambs@manchester.ac.uk

Contingency Arrangements for Service Interruption for Blackboard / Turnitin

In the event of Blackboard/Turnitin being unavailable (see above steps to confirm this), in order to submit your assessed work by the stated deadline please email your work to studentsupport.ambs@manchester.ac.uk

Please ensure that you enter your ID on your work, and the subject line of the email should include your BMAN course code and student ID number i.e. BMAN12345 9876543

These arrangements are only to be used in the event of Blackboard/Turnitin being unavailable. Work will not be accepted via this submission method under any other circumstances.

Absence from examinations or non-submission of coursework without due cause

Any absence from examinations or non-submission of coursework without due cause will result in a mark of zero for that paper/piece of work.

Failure to read the examination timetable or coursework submission requirements correctly will not be deemed as an acceptable reason. It follows that a mark of zero will be recorded in these circumstances which may jeopardise your prospects of reaching the pass mark for the course unit.

Absence from examinations/summative class tests due to Mitigating Circumstances (i.e. medical or other personal circumstances)

If you are unable to sit one or more examinations or unable to attend a summative class test due to serious illness or other substantial mitigating circumstances you should inform the Alliance MBS Undergraduate Assessment and Student Support Centre (AMBSE/D14), telephone 0161 306 3502 ( email studentsupport.ambs@manchester.ac.uk ), of the reasons without delay.

You must also complete the University’s Notification of Mitigating Circumstances Form.
