There are more than 500 Confucius Institutes around the world, and each one serves its community in a different way. Here in Manchester our focus is on the following four key areas:
- Chinese Learning, Teaching and Testing
- Promotion of Contemporary China
- Education Exchange
- Engagement with China
The main purpose of the institute is the teaching of Chinese language though evening classes, school partnerships and teacher training programmes. And secondly, they aim to encourage a broader and deeper understanding of Chinese culture and contemporary China through the vibrant public events programme.
Over the last decade the institute has taught thousands of students, built links with over thirty schools in the region and worked with major cultural festivals all over the city, establishing themselves as a centre for Chinese language teaching and a hub for Chinese culture in the North West.
September is here, which means the beginning of a new academic year!
It also means that the campus is bustling with new and returning students and the institute are busy preparing for the autumn term, starting on 1 October. It is not too late to register for evening classes! And did you know the institute also run Saturday daytime classes?
If you are unsure of your level and which class to go for, come along to the Taster Week (24 - 27th September, 6-7pm)!
You can also keep an eye on the website, Twitter, and Facebook for news and listings.
All new followers will have the chance to win cinema tickets to 'The Great Buddha' next Tuesday!
Manchester is the proud home to the second Confucius Institute to be established in the UK.
