AMBS library services

AMBS library services

 

The University of Manchester Libraries provides you with the resources and support you need throughout your programme. The library for all your business and management essential text books, with multiple copies of all new editions of core and useful texts, is the Eddie Davies Library. In addition to books, journals, databases, and study support, there are iPads and laptops available for loan at the Main Library and selected site libraries. Your My Manchester portal has quick links to all of the Library’s resources and services available to students.

 

Getting Started

 

You will need your student card to access all library sites around campus. Many of our services and resources also require you to confirm that you are a registered student. This authentication can be your student card, the ID number on the card, the central username and password you use to log on, or a combination of these. The Library Subject Guide for Business and Management students is an excellent starting point starting point as it will help you access materials and information relevant to your subject. Each course module in Blackboard includes an online reading list, so you can quickly check availability and directly access e-books, digitised chapters and e-journals or articles.

 

Study space

There is Wi-Fi availability throughout the Eddie Davies Library; you will also find computer clusters, group and individual study spaces, as well as the Finance Zone. The Finance Zone provides dedicated PCs offering access to specialist financial databases such as Bloomberg and Datastream. Many of the other Library sites also have group study rooms; these are bookable via MyManchester.

The Main Library

The Main Library holds the principal collection of other Schools’ books and journals. It also contains bookable group study rooms, individual study space options and is one of the major computer cluster locations in The University of Manchester. Wi-Fi is available throughout the building and a cafe lounge can be found on the ground floor. The Main Library has long opening hours and extends these during exam periods. Alan Gilbert Learning Commons

The Alan Gilbert Learning Commons is a state-of-the-art study and learning environment with 24/7 opening hours throughout term-time. The AGLC has open learning spaces with multimedia facilities, computer clusters, 30 bookable group study rooms with whiteboards and media screens, 24 open plan group study areas with a PC and media screen, as well as social meeting spaces. There is WiFi access throughout the building.

My Learning Essentials

My Learning Essentials is the Library’s comprehensive programme of online resources, interactive training workshops and skills clinics designed to help students develop both their academic and employability skills. Covering a variety of academic and transferable skills, the programme has been developed by Library staff in partnership with other teams across the University.

 

Business Data Service

Get expert help, advice and assistance on business and management resources from the Library’s Business Data Service. As well as sourcing and maintaining an extensive range of specialist databases, the BDS provides advice and expertise via online support, workshops, drop-ins and research consultations which help students to make best use of these complex resources. The BDS also write a hugely popular blog which features database tips, app reviews and much more.
